Eagle Huntress (2018/24)

Instrumentation:
String orchestra

Duration: ca. 6’

“For countless generations, only men were allowed to train to hunt with eagles. It was the way things were. Until one day, a brave, fearless girl steps forward, determined to learn the ways of the hunt from her father. This is her story–Mongolia's first eagle huntress.”

Ten years ago, I was fortunate to spend a week in Inner Mongolia. There, I was hosted by the traditional ensemble Anda Union. They not only shared with me their music (the horse-head fiddle, throat-singing, chang diao), but also their home and their way of life. I am forever grateful for Anda's generosity and friendship; Inner Mongolia remains a special place in my heart.
